For as long as I can remember I have been aware of my body's relationship to space. Oftentimes, I have found a disconnect between my own bodily perception and what is truly there. This awareness of my own physicality lead to the investigation of how space changes and reacts to the way movements occur within it. Through the utilization of self-portraiture as a mode of performance, Body/Space attempts to create a sense of discomfort between the body and the way that it is moving within the isolated space. The performance occurring withing these images extends to the viewer, asking the eye to navigate through the rooms and the movements captured with a slower exposure. Between moments of confrontation as well as vulnerability, I hope to create a disjointed perception of myself in conversation with the way a female body is captured in photography.
This body of work is 450 individual hand cut images exploring the performance of self-portraiture repetition of movement, and limitation of space. This is considered to be a performance, from the photographing to the hand cutting with an x-acto knife, to the installation.
